چکیده

Assuming 0 does not exist, κ is an uncountable cardinal and for all cardinals λ with κ ≤ λ < κ+ω, 2 = λ+, we present a “mini-coding” between κ and κ+ω. This allows us to prove that any subset of κ+ω can be coded into a subset, W of κ+ which, further, “reshapes” the interval [κ, κ+), i.e., for all κ < δ < κ+, κ = (card δ)L[W∩δ]. We sketch two applications of this result, assuming 0 does not exist. First, we point out that this shows that any set can be coded by a real, via a set forcing. The second application involves a notion of abstract condensation, due to Woodin. Our methods can be used to show that for any cardinal μ, condensation for μ holds in a generic extension by a set forcing.

A Combinatorial Forcing for Coding the Universe by a Real When There Are No Sharps

Assuming 0 does not exist, we present a combinatorial approach to Jensen’s method of coding by a real. The forcing uses combinatorial consequences of fine structure (including the Covering Lemma, in various guises), but makes no direct appeal to fine structure itself.

Reducing the risk of needlestick injuries in hospital

After performing procedures involving sharps, many wards in St George's Hospital have no quick and accessible 'point of care' sharps bin for their safe disposal. Instead one must transport potentially hazardous equipment away from the bedside, risking injury and exposure to persons en route. Results from a questionnaire showed that 73% felt they were indeed poorly placed, 95% felt a portable sh...

Occupational exposure to sharps injury among healthcare providers in Ethiopia regional hospitals

BACKGROUND Sharps injury is a penetrating stab wound from a needle, scalpel, or another sharp object that may result in exposure to blood or other body fluids. According to World Health Organization pooled estimate, the annual incidence of sharps injury in Africa was ranged from 2.10 to 4.68 per person per year, but research data in Ethiopia is limited. The aim of the study was to investigate s...

Understanding sharps injuries in home healthcare: The Safe Home Care qualitative methods study to identify pathways for injury prevention

BACKGROUND Home healthcare is one of the fastest growing sectors in the United States. Percutaneous injuries from sharp medical devices (sharps) are a source of bloodborne pathogen infections among home healthcare workers and community members. Sharps use and disposal practices in the home are highly variable and there is no comprehensive analysis of the system of sharps procurement, use and di...

RR914 - An evaluation of the efficacy of safer sharps devices: Systematic review

Sharps-related injuries carry the risk of serious blood borne infection. A systematic review was undertaken to consider the evidence related to safer sharps devices and their impact on needlestick injury reduction within the healthcare sector. The review sought to determine whether: n the use of safer sharps devices could reduce the incidence of sharps injury; n dedicated educational / training...
